What is Mutual Aid?
Solidarity not Charity
Mutual aid is not charity. Unlike charity, which is a one-way street of aid, often wrapped up with conditions and expectations placed on the recipient, mutual aid is a voluntary form of caring for and helping one another. It is based on the understanding that we are only as strong as the communities we are a part of and that coming together in difficult times is the best way of assuring the well-being of all.
We are not wealthy, far-away donors, or an interest group with a hidden motive: we are simply members of the community trying to help our neighbors during hard times in the hopes that by building stronger communities, we will all be able to help each other in the future. Because we are stronger together.
